    Differences Between LED Rope Lights And LED Strip Lights: 8 Items Overview

    What is a LED rope light?

You can cut off the rope light, but it must be at its cutting point.


    The cutting points are different for each model. Some manufacturers place a cutting point every 18 to 24 inches, while some manufacturers may place a cutting point every 36 inches.


    What is an LED strip?


    As the name suggests, this lighting fixture is a flat material with LED lights mounted on the surface. A strip is a circuit board that usually has an adhesive on the back. It is flexible enough to be used in different applications or easily cut with scissors. You can also cut it at any length, but be sure to cut between the copper points at the end of each LED.

    Light source

    Strip lights can be configured in a variety of LED chips. Some examples are 3528, 5050, 3014, and the like. These numbers refer to the chip size in millimeters (for example, 3528 is 3.5 mm x 2.8 mm).


    2. Brightness


    As we said above, the brightness of the rope lights is not sufficient for accent lighting, display lighting or any application that requires high brightness. If you plan to use them for decorative purposes, such as creating emotions for Halloween and Christmas, then brightness should be enough.


    The brightness of the strip light depends on the LED chip configuration. For example, 5050 has a brighter chip than 3528. If you use the latter as much as 5050, then it can be brighter.


    However, 3020 and 3014 can be brighter than both. In short, the brightness of the strip lamp can vary from a low level to a high level.


    3. Size


    The rope lights are small enough to be used in tight spaces, but they can be thick if compared to strip lights. The diameter of the tube is typically 1/2" or 3/4". So no matter what you put them, they can stand out.


    Strip lights, even with LED bulbs, are typically only 1/16" thick and 3/8" wide. In contrast, they are much smaller than rope lights, which makes them ideal for narrow spaces.


    4. Corner


    You can't bend the rope too much and it is possible to mess with the internal wiring. On the other hand, you can bend the strip light 90 degrees. This allows you to place them on the surface and at a 90 degree angle.


    Remember to bend them in the cutting line - the 2 copper points we mentioned earlier. They are quite flexible because you can even distort or loop them.


    5. Run long


    Both types of lamps have a maximum length before undergoing a voltage drop. This allows them to function properly without the risk of malfunction or darkening due to insufficient energy. We call it "maximum operation."


    With a single power supply, LED ropes and strip lights can operate at up to 16 feet (12V). The incandescent rope has a maximum stroke of 16 feet. For 24V, the strip light can reach 16 feet, while other strip lights do not have a specified length.


    For 120V, incandescent and LED rope lighting can only reach 150 feet, while strip lighting has no specified number. Having said that, if you need a longer light, you need an extra power supply.


    6. Installation


    Rope lights require mounting strips that make the product thicker so you can attach them to the surface. Strip lights usually have a sticky backing; you just need to stick it to the water and it will stay there for a long time.


    7. Effect


    Do you like your lights to change colors? Strip lights have this ability, and rope lights do not change color. Both are dimmable and have a stroboscopic effect. Strip lights can't have a chase or flicker effect, but rope lights can do it.


    8. Indoor or outdoor


    If you plan to use them outdoors, you can choose which one, because they can also work outdoors. But please note that you can't immerse them in water; they can only tolerate a little water. Sun exposure is also a factor.


    Having said that, many people prefer outdoor rope lights, such as around trees or around doors. You can usually find bar lights indoors, such as cabinet shelves or walls.
