second-chance points as it outrebounded t

CLEVELAND -- Corey Klubers got a cloud hanging over him so far this season. Cheap Oren Burks Jersey . And its already opened up twice. For the second time in a week, Clevelands right-hander had a start postponed because of rain as Mondays interleague series opener between the Indians and San Diego Padres was washed out. With steady rains falling at Progressive Field and the forecast for more showers and no window to play, the Indians announced the postponement less than two hours before the scheduled opening pitch. The teams will play a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday with the first game scheduled to begin at 12:05 p.m. The second game will start 20 minutes after the conclusion of the opener. Last week, Klubers season debut in Oakland was postponed as the Athletics were rained out for the first time since 1998. The Indians and As made up the rainout the following day with a day-night doubleheader, the earliest doubleheader in baseball history, according to STATS. So, is this Klubers fault? "I dont know if you can blame this one on Klubes," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "It seems like there is always a pitcher, though, who catches it." Kluber, incidentally, was drafted by the Padres in 2007. Because the Padres are not scheduled to come back to Cleveland again this season due to the interleague format, the Indians decided to make up the postponement as soon as possible rather than push it back to a later date. "This is obviously the only time well play San Diego so it makes sense to play and not have them flying back on some other day off," Francona said. "Its too easy to put it off until later and all of a sudden theres a lot of laters. So I think making it up now makes sense." The Padres, who are making their first visit to Cleveland since 2008, dont deal with many rainouts in California. "It doesnt happen much in San Diego, but in other parts of the country and in other parts of your career, you get accustomed to this," said manager Bud Black, who had two stints as a pitcher with the Indians. "Its always a little unsettling, but most players are conditioned for days like this based on the number of times this happens over ones career." Still, the Indians are conditioned to the weather theyve faced since returning home. Their home opener against Minnesota on Friday was delayed more than two hours by rain, and they played three straight games against the Twins in blustery, frigid conditions. "Its tough," Indians catcher Yan Gomes said. "Even San Francisco, man, it was cold out there, too. Coming out here and playing in the cold weather, I know it takes a toll on a lot of guys bodies. But hey, you cant pick your spots. Youve got to play in this kind of weather and the other teams are doing the same." Klubers start is pushed back until Tuesday against San Diegos Tyson Ross. Zach McAllister will start one of Wednesdays games and Francona said the Indians will promote a starter from the minors for the other. The Padres are bumping Mondays starter, left-hander Robbie Erlin, back to Wednesday with lefty Eric Stults starting the other game. The Padres havent decided in which order theyll pitch. Playing two doubleheaders in a week can be taxing on any pitching staff, but Francona said its not a major issue as long as games arent cancelled on consecutive days. "When you start missing two or three games then you have to start to skip guys and we havent had to do that," he said. Whats been challenging or the Indians so far has been the cold. After spending spring training in beautiful Arizona, theyve returned to a winter that still has its grip on Cleveland. "Its difficult, but at the same time you have to be mentally tough," outfielder Michael Brantley said. "We know what were getting into coming to Cleveland, especially in the beginning part of the year. We layer up and stay as warm as possible." NOTES: Francona does not yet know if CF Michael Bourn will travel with the club to Chicago, where the Indians will begin a seven-game trip on Thursday. Bourn is on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. He was eligible to be activated on the weekend, but has made only one minor league rehab appearance and needs to play more. ... The Indians are 148-155 in interleague play. The Padres are 119-155 against AL teams. Cheap Cole Madison Jersey . His team rose to the occasion Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Sweden in the bronze-medal game. "The sting from yesterday is not something we hid from or pretend didnt happen," Dineen said. Cheap JMon Moore Jersey . -- When the Los Angeles Kings are on top of their formidable defensive game, they revel in the silence they can create in a frustrated road arena.EAST LANSING, Mich. -- With some swagger and a sweet stroke, Nik Stauskas lifted Michigan to a rare win at Michigan State. Stauskas made a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 3:12 left and finished with 19 points to lead the 21st-ranked Wolverines to an 80-75 win over the third-ranked Spartans on Saturday night to remain the only Big Ten team without a conference loss. The sophomore shooting guard had four assists and unofficially had another one, separating coach John Beilein from a face-to-face argument with an official with 4:01 remaining. "He was about to get a technical," Stauskas said. Stauskas helped the usually mild-mannered Beilein from saying or doing something that might cost his team points just before the Wolverines (15-4, 7-0 Big Ten) went on a 10-0 run late in the game to take control. "Thats a great step in his leadership," Beilein said with a grin. The Wolverines won for just the second time in 15 games at the Breslin Center. Michigan is the first team since at least the 1996-97 season to win three straight games against top-10 teams in the regular season, according to STATS. The Wolverines, who had never pulled off that feat in school history, were coming off a win against No. 10 Iowa at home after beating then-No. 3 Wisconsin on the road. "This is a great win for us because of who we were just able to beat," Beilein said. "Its one of the classiest, best programs in the country." Freshman Derrick Walton Jr. scored a season-high 19 and Caris LeVert scored 17 for the Wolverines, who have won nine straight without standout centre Mitch McGary. The Spartans (18-2, 7-1) had won 11 straight since losing to North Carolina at home, but the streak was snapped by their rival soon after another injury-related setback. "The better team won," coach Tom Izzo ackknowledged. Cheap Packers Jerseys Authentic. Adreian Payne missed a fifth straight game with a sprained right foot and Branden Dawson was out for the first time since the junior forward said he broke his right hand hitting a table. Michigan, though, didnt have any sympathy. The Wolverines, who lost Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. early to the NBA, have been playing without McGary because he needed back surgery since losing to No. 1 Arizona in a closely contested game. Michigan States Gary Harris scored a career-high 27 points and didnt get much help offensively from his team that was without two of its best players. Freshman Alvin Ellis scored a season-high 12 points, surpassing his scoring total from his first seven Big Ten games. Keith Appling was held to 10 points on 3 of 11 shooting, playing with a wrist injury and bad back. "He just cant shoot right now with that wrist," Izzo said. Michigan turned 11 offensive rebounds into 15 second-chance points as it outrebounded the Spartans 34-30. The Wolverines have won five of seven in the series after losing 18 of 21, and Appling took the latest loss hard because he will not play them again at home. "I feel like I lost a close family member," he said softly. "Thats how bad it hurts." Michigan got off to a great start with Stauskas making jumpers, pumping his fist and shouting as he ran back to play defence. The Wolverines started 4 of 4 from the field and led 10-2 before losing the lead midway through the first half as Michigan States defensive intensity picked up and its crowd began to roar. Michigan made shots when it needed them most in the second half, scoring 50 points after halftime, including 5 of 8 on 3-pointers and 23 of 27 at the line. "Youre not going to beat too many teams when they shoot that way," Harris said. Cheap Hawks JerseysCheap Celtics Jerseys Cheap Nets Jerseys Cheap Hornets Jerseys Cheap Bulls Jerseys Cheap Cavaliers Jerseys Cheap Mavericks Jerseys Cheap Nuggets Jerseys Cheap Pistons JerseysCheap Warriors Jerseys Cheap Rockets Jerseys Cheap Pacers Jerseys Cheap Clippers Jerseys Cheap Lakers Jerseys Cheap Grizzlies Jerseys ' ' '
